The most effective means of swaying government include personal contact.
1) Set up a meeting with your representative or someone in their local office. If you are in D.C., make sure you take time to set up a 15 minute session. This is the single most effective way to make an impact.
2) Attend rallies and tea parties aimed at influencing legislation.
2) Make a phone call. Create your own script and call the local and D.C. office. Tell them you're like to speak to someone about reading legislation. Tell them you're part of a group called ShowUsTheBill, and you'd like to urge them to read legislation prior to voting on it.
3) Send a written letter or a fax. Written letters and faxes still take time, and are considered more valuable than digital correspondence.
4) Send an email. Emails are easy, which means you'll get a canned response. It doesn't hurt, but the first three methods are the most effective.
